The monument to Electress Louise-Henriette of Orange in front of Oranienburg Palace is one of the most striking indications of Dutch influence in the Havelbruch region. Although many details are explained in the exhibition on display in the restored rooms of the Baroque palace, a first-hand experience is much more powerful. This is best obtained by cycling northwards through the district town and its water-rich surroundings. If you are travelling with a push bike, you can spend the night in Oranienburg with barrier-free access.

Along the way, it is easy to imagine how, as a native of Holland, Louise-Henriette attracted many of her compatriots to Brandenburg with her enthusiasm and the privileges she granted them. After the Thirty Years’ War, they brought about an unforgettable upturn in the agricultural economy.
