A new court gardener was engaged by Prince Augustus William in 1775 to beautify the pleasure garden. In around 1770, a small single-storey house was built for him directly in the pleasure garden next to the park gate: it is a building that remains an eye-catcher to this day.

After the death of the court gardener in 1801, the house had various owners. In 1884 the building was bought by cloth merchant and banker Louis Blumenthal.

The former Brandenburg Minister of Social Affairs, Regine Hildebrandt, gave the building the honorary name of “Blumenthalsches Haus” on the occasion of her visit to Oranienburg on April 26, 1996.

After extensive reconstruction work, an Italian restaurant was opened here in September 2008.
